Woodland Fairytale Wedding Inspiration
19th May 2019 | Posted in Styled Shoot by emmajo
An ethereal fairy tale styled shoot full of dreamy, woodland wedding inspiration created by a small team of creatives, who you will find listed at the bottom.
Scroll through for paper butterflies, gorgeous florals and smoke bombs!
I wanted the stationery to nod towards the ‘Fairytale’ theme but the design to remain elegant enough to suit lots of couples and their different wedding styles. I instantly thought of butterflies and knew I wanted to bring a unique element to the stationery, so I chose to keep the overall design very simple with a minimal palette to compliment the aesthetic.
Butterfly shapes were cut into each card so they could be folded up and appear to sit on the stationery. I designed invites, save the dates and menus to match for the shoot.
The beauty of styled shoots is that I get a chance to try out innovative ideas I have brewing. Following the fairytale theme, I wanted to make some fun, alternative place settings a little different to the normal place cards. So I hand painted names on apples (my inspiration was Snow White!) and finished them with paper butterflies – I was really pleased with how they turned out and think they would be a great talking point amongst guests too!
I also made some laser cut pieces, a ‘happily ever after’ cake topper, cocktail stirrers and little butterfly place settings with engraved names that would make perfect favours too, all in frosted white acrylic.

Without wishing the months away I have been itching for June to come along not only for the weather…but for the latest issue of New Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Abroad to hit the shelves.
It’s here and I couldn’t be more chuffed. For DWHA’s first ever Inspiration page our very own Rowney was chosen to feature in the opener. DWHA is bursting with pretty inspiration and I can’t believe we have a whole page, beautifully shot as always by Holly Booth. Rowney looks amazing, I am super proud, thank you DWHA, Holly and Kate for such a lovely feature. I couldn’t love it more.
This glossy is a must for all your destination weddings and honeymoon needs!

A little more…The Midland, Morecambe
7th November 2014 | Posted in Styled Shoot by emmajo
Last month I shared some beautiful images from Jo Bradbury‘s The Midland in Morecambe shoot. There were so many stunning images I had to share just a few more. If you’re planning an Art Deco inspired wedding I’m sure these will help you inject a little sparkle…
The Midland Hotel, Morecambe is a beautiful Art Deco building so I wanted to design a bespoke table plan to compliment the architecture. Inspired by the hotel’s sign, I laser cut the couples names to create a 3D header from which lists of individually hand cut guest names hung from, with ribbon. Each of the five tables is numbered with a laser cut, gold glitter number with hand stitched black tassels. Seating plans don’t have to be boring, they can compliment the styling and create a fun talking point for your guests too.

With the launch of the new regular feature ‘Everything you need to know about wedding stationery’ earlier today, let’s start as we mean to go on and follow up with the very first post in the series.
How many invites do I order?
A common mistake newly engaged couples make when ordering stationery is the quantity of invitations they need. You will be sending one invitation per household, not per guest. Cohabiting couples receive one invitation and for couples living apart, I suggest sending one invite to the guest you’re closer with and including both names on the envelope and invitation. Families should receive one invitation and traditionally children over 18 who live at home or away should receive their own invitation. Take a look at your guest list and count how many houses need invitations before you give your stationer the final number.
Plus a few…
I always recommend that my couples order enough invitations for their guest list, plus at least 10 extra sets for any last minute guest list changes, damages or lost in the post or if you plan on sending invitations to a “B-list” to replace guests who can not attend. From experience there is always extra guests added to the most final of lists. It’s better to order a few extra invites initially, rather than having to re-order more later which can be expensive. Especially if you are having letterpress or foil printed pieces as there is usually a minimum run of 30 so it may not even be possible to order just a couple more a few weeks later.
Don’t forget, you might want to keep one as a keepsake too!
Also consider ordering extra envelopes to allow for addressing errors and if you’re hiring a calligrapher they usually request approx. 15%-20% extra invitations/envelopes for inevitable addressing mistakes.
Ta da, first post done! I hope you found this helpful, these posts will be filed under ‘need to know basis’ in the categories on the right so you can use this resource whenever you need with ease.

It’s not every day you order your wedding stationery. How are you suppose to know what a save the date is or when you should send out your invites?!
Brides and Grooms quite rightly have a ton of questions and I am pleased to help as much as I can throughout the ordering process. There can be a lot to consider but it shouldn’t be overwhelming, the whole experience should be easy and fun!
“It was definitely the most fun I had during the wedding process I have loved emailing you and talking about ideas and then seeing you bring them to life.” CHARLOTTE MARR (BRIDE) May 2013
There are naturally a few reoccurring questions that I’m asked with each new enquiry but I also feel newly engaged couples could benefit from more detailed information that doesn’t seem to be readily available to them. This is why I’m launching a new, regular blog post where I offer a nugget of advice, a tip or just useful information in small, pretty, uncomplicated posts that couples can use as a planning tool – an archive for all things wedding stationery.
“The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself.” OSCAR WILDE

The Midland, Morecambe Styled Shoot
10th September 2014 | Posted in Styled Shoot by emmajo
A short while ago Jo Bradbury approached me to join a group of fellow wedding vendors and collaborate on a wedding photo shoot at The Midland in Morecambe. I jumped at the chance and donated a few pieces of stationery to compliment the beautiful costal venue that boasts a relaxed Art Deco elegance. It was great fun and so lovely to work with such talented people, thanks again Jo your photographs are truly beautiful!
As there were a handful of different looks and settings from the day I’ve decided to split them up across a few posts and I will be sharing a few of my personal favourites over the next week.
I love this bridal look so much – relaxed hair, simple make up, a pretty head band, a delicate cover up with a tulle skirt…heaven!
I hope you love these photos as much as I do and find a little inspiration for your day too.

I’ve been working hard behind the scenes on rebranding and generally refreshing my website. It is fair to say it is taking a little longer than I hoped, designing for yourself can be a nightmare and you can end up not making any decisions at all!
However…lots of new designs are being developed and finalised, custom collections are gathering and generally lots of pretty paper has waited long enough.
So just to satisfy my urge to share some new stuff, here’s a peak at one of my new designs ‘Pencil Us In’ a save the date card complete with personalised, hand foiled pencil.
Along with a handful of other pieces, they have been waiting patiently for me to get a move on and officially launch them on my website. It won’t be long now… promise. So send your guests something different with these fun save the dates. They are useful, eco friendly and who doesn’t love a pencil!
These save the dates are printed on our special, 250gsm board which is made from around 60% recycled beer labels. This yummy board is off white in colour with tiny brown flecks highlighting the lovely eco friendly qualities. The design features fun wording with original illustrations and typography. Nice.

Wedding Photographer, Jo Bradbury has been busy the last few months organising an Art Deco inspired shoot at The Midland, Morecambe. It happened last week with an amazing team of suppliers and I was lucky enough to be asked to provide the stationery. The full shoot will be available really soon (I’m just heading off on my jolly’s so you will probably see it before me!) so I wanted to share a little peak featuring my gold foiled, laser cut and hand covered, glitter table number. I can’t wait to see the shoot in full, it promises to inspire all you lovely, Art Deco Brides and Grooms!

Sonia and Chris’s Elephant Invites
20th February 2014 | Posted in stationery by emmajo
Sonia came to me last year with such a lovely idea for her and Chris’s invites I couldn’t wait to get started and these invites have now become a firm favourite of mine.
Sonia wanted the invites to reflect the couples cultures and for the stationery to incorporate two Indian elephants, Chris’s elephant with a colourful tartan print and Sonia’s inspired by the paintings from the Indian Elephant Festival. As they were having Indian and Scottish celebrations three separate invites were needed and so Sonia wanted these to be defined with foil edging, gold for the Indian invites and silver for the Scottish invites. To really let the edging sing we duplexed the card to double the weight to 700gsm creating a deeper edge to really show off the shine! Both sets also came with RSVP postcards and information cards. The envelope flaps were letterpress printed in black with the couples elephant motifs.
I loved the whole idea for these invites and the thought Sonia put into them and the use of multiple process and finishes makes these invites extra special. Plus I love elephants so I was always going to love doing these!
Hand drawn Indian elephants with prints and matching envelope liner.
If you would like me to design your bespoke wedding stationery please do get in touch for further details, I would love to hear from you.

At the end of last year I was asked to help a groom who wanted to incorporate the couples favourite music into the day stationery. He had a list of the bands and wanted vinyl records to be featured. I designed new record label stickers for each table and fixed to both sides of old 7 inch records and they looked great…see!
I also designed a matching table plan that I will be sharing soon.
